A couple of months ago you might have given us a few minutes to help us understand the issues that are important to Bank Australia customers and the role you'd like us to play in responding to them. The results are now in.
The issues that were nominated as most important most often by the over 3000 customers who completed the survey were:
- Encouraging growth in renewable energy
- Acting on climate change by reducing carbon emissions
- Treating refugees fairly and humanely
- Reducing domestic violence and its impacts
- Closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians
- Protecting endangered species and habitat.
As a customer owned bank, it’s important for us to address issues that are important to you. Your answers help us shape where we make investments through the Bank Australia Impact Fund, where we need look at our operations and policies, which kinds of partnerships to form, where we can play a role in education and where we can explore new business opportunities.
While recognising there is more to be done, the bank is already actively working on a number of these issues. As an example the bank is a partner in the Melbourne Renewable Energy Project, which is seeking to find a new way to buy renewable energy. You can read more about this work here.
We are now also looking closely at how we can contribute to reducing family violence in the community.
Over coming months we will continue to update you on how we are responding to these issues to create mutual prosperity - for our customers, the communities they live in, and the planet we all live on.
