Disability advocacy and abuse services

Disability Advocacy Finder
An online tool to assist individuals, families and carers to locate government funded advocacy services in their local area. 

National Disability Abuse and Neglect Hotline - 1800 880 052 
Provides support to report abuse and neglect of people with disability (for individuals or carers).

Domestic and family violence

    A national 
    free, confidential family violence and sexual assault support service that operates 24 hours 7 days a week. Trained counsellors are available to listen and support you for what feels right for you and your situation and help refer you to local support. 
    A free confidential online chat service is also available.

    Provides social security payments, social work counselling and referrals to other services. May provide crisis payments for people in severe financial hardship, victims of family violence or other extreme circumstance who have left their home and cannot return.

    24/7 national, free, confidential phone counselling service. For men with family and relationship concerns. Counsellors specialise in family and relationship issues, including relationship breakdown, separation and divorce, parenting, family violence, suicide prevention and emotional well-being.
    Available 24/7 via phone. Online counselling also available. 

  • Men's Referral Service (No to violence) | Phone: 1300 766 491 
    A free, confidential support service for men taking responsibility for their violent behaviour. 
    Available 24/7 Tasmania, New South Wales, and 8am-9pm weekdays & 9am-6pm weekends in other states. 
    A free confidential online web chat is also available 8am-9pm weekdays. 

  • Women's Legal Service Australia
    Directs women to local legal services that specialise in women's legal issues eg. family law, family violence matters and general legal issues.

    National complaints handling service that independently assists consumers and small businesses to make and resolve complaints about financial firms.

  • Legal Aid
    Directs clients to the Legal Aid Service in their state or territory that can provide information on family law, family violence intervention orders and civil/credit and debt matters.

    Free, national legal advice service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from anywhere in Australia about money and debt. 
    Available 9.30 - 4.30pm weekdays.  

  • Rural Financial Counselling Service | Phone: 1800 686 175 
    A free financial service for farmers, producers, harvestors and related small business owners that are experiencing financial difficulty. This service provides impartial finanacial information, options, decision support and referral service. 

  • Women's Legal Service Australia
    Directs women to local legal services that specialise in women's legal issues eg. family law, family violence matters and general legal issues. 
Homelessness Support

Homelessness Australia
Provides information about the services available for people at risk or, or experiencing, homelessness, in all areas of Australia.

Helps a user search and locate over 350 000 services including housing, meals, healthcare, counselling, legal advice, addiction treatment.

LGBTQI+ services and support

Provides anonymous and free LGBTIQ+ peer support and referral for people wanting to talk about sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships

People who don't speak English

Translating and Interpreting Services | 13 14 50
Provides an interpreting service for people who do not speak English over the phone or to attend an appointment in person. The majority of TIS National services are free to non-English speakers. Generally the organisation you are contacting will accept the charges for the service.

Rights and support for seniors

NSW EMonlder Abuse Helpline (NSW) – 1800 628 221
Provides information, support and referrals relating to the abuse of older people living in the community across NSW.

Seniors Rights Victoria - 1300 368 821
Provide legal services and advocacy to any Victorian aged 60 and above, or to any Indigenous Victorian aged 45 and above, on matters relating to elder abuse and ageing.

Elder Abuse Hotline Queensland - 1300 651 192 
Free and confidential advice for anyone experiencing elder abuse or who suspects someone they know may be experiencing elder abuse.
