Frequently asked questions

How is the Clean Energy Personal Loan different from a regular personal loan?
Chevron down

A Clean Energy Personal Loan is specifically designed to support eligible, energy efficient upgrades. While a regular personal loan can be used for a wide range of purposes, this loan is intended to help fund improvements that can help you make your home more sustainable.

Can I use the loan for multiple Eligible Upgrades?
Chevron down

Yes. If you're planning more than one eligible upgrade, you can include them in a single Clean Energy Personal Loan application, subject to lending approval and loan limits.

What evidence do I need to provide for my clean energy upgrade?
Chevron down

As part of your application, we will ask for documentation that confirms the upgrades you're planning to complete. This may include quotes, proposals, contracts or invoices from your supplier or installer.

So we can confirm the upgrades meet our eligibility criteria, the documents should clearly detail;

  • the products and installation works being provided
  • The supplier or installer’s ABN, business details, and payment instructions
  • For rooftop solar or battery upgrades: the name of the installer and their Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accreditation number
What happens after I apply?
Chevron down

After you apply, one of our lending specialists will contact you to assess your application, including your eligible upgrades.

Your loan will be conditionally approved, subject to all the loan criteria being met, including eligibility of your planned upgrade/s. Once the loan conditions are met you will receive formal approval and the loan offer.

Once the works are complete provide your final invoice(s) to your lending specialist within 90 days of your formal approval and we will make direct payments to these suppliers/installers and can also reimburse you for any deposit paid in relation to the works if included in the approved loan amount.

Time limits

If not all of your final invoices are not available at the same time, we will partially fund your loan according to the invoices that are available for payment, and you can provide the remaining invoices to us within 90 days of formal approval. Note: any unfunded portions of your loan may be withdrawn after 90 days from your formal approval.

How do I evidence that my installer is Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accredited prior to installation? (applies to rooftop solar and battery upgrades only).
Chevron down

Ask the business arranging your installation to provide written confirmation of the installer's name and SAA accreditation number planned for the quoted work. We can then verify the installer's SAA accreditation.

If the individual installer's details are not available at the quote stage for your work, at a minimum we can accept written confirmation from the business arranging your installation that they will only use an installer that holds the appropriate SAA accreditation for the type of installation.

Are ‘DIY’(Do-It-Yourself) installations eligible for Clean Energy Personal Loan?
Chevron down

No. Do not attempt any installation works yourself. You are responsible for selecting and engaging suppliers and installers and for ensuring they hold any licences, qualifications, accreditations and other authorisations required to perform the relevant work in your state or territory.

1. Eligibility

‍To be eligible for a Clean Energy Personal Loan, the loan funds must be used solely for one or more eligible upgrades listed.

When applying for a Clean Energy Personal Loan, you must provide itemised quotations for the proposed eligible upgrade(s).

We will assess the quotations against the eligibility requirements set out in the eligible upgrades table and may approve those quotations (Approved Quotations).

If you have Approved Quotations and satisfy our lending requirements, we may approve your application.

 2. Approved Works

‍You must complete the eligible upgrade(s) substantially in accordance with the Approved Quotations unless we approve a Material Variation.

A Material Variation is a material change to the goods, equipment, cost or scope specified in an Approved Quotation, or a change of supplier or installer which results in the completed works no longer satisfying the applicable eligibility requirements.

A change of supplier or installer is not, by itself, a Material Variation.

You must tell us about a proposed Material Variation before proceeding with the changed works. We may require a revised quotation and reassess whether the proposed works satisfy the applicable eligibility requirements.

Payment

‍Once an eligible upgrade is completed, you must provide:

  • an itemised invoice for the completed works; and
  • any other information we reasonably require.

We may verify that:

  • the completed works substantially correspond with the Approved Quotations; and
  • no unapproved Material Variation has occurred.

Subject to your loan contract, we will pay the approved amount to the relevant supplier or installer, or reimburse you where we have agreed to do so.

We may refuse payment where:

  • the completed works do not substantially correspond with the Approved Quotations;
  • an unapproved Material Variation has occurred;
  • the completed works do not satisfy the applicable eligibility requirements in the eligible upgrades table; or
  • you do not provide information we reasonably request.

We may pay the eligible portion of an invoice and refuse payment of any ineligible portion.

3. Time Limits

You must provide an invoice for an eligible upgrade within 90 days after the date your application is formally approved, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

If we do not receive an invoice within that period, we may refuse to make any payment in respect of the relevant eligible upgrade and may cancel any undisbursed loan funds allocated to that eligible upgrade.

4. Responsibility for the Works

You are responsible for selecting and engaging suppliers and installers and for ensuring they hold any licences, qualifications, accreditations and other authorisations required to perform the relevant work in your state or territory.

You should obtain any certificates, approvals or compliance documentation applicable to the completed works, including any electrical safety certificates required by law.

Our review of quotations, invoices or other documents is undertaken solely for lending purposes. It does not constitute approval, certification or endorsement of any supplier, installer or works.
