We’re supporting Australian Bird
of the Year

The bank that's helping to protect nature and biodiversity is the bank Australia needs.

As a customer-owned B Corp bank, we balance profit and purpose – and act on issues that matter to our customers. We know from our nature survey that our customers care deeply about nature, and want us to take action on biodiversity loss.

Our customers are why we help care for a conservation reserve – home to endangered South-eastern Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo, and other threatened species – and why we’re stepping up to support Australian Bird of the Year 2025.

The other reason? Birds are great.

Australian Bird of the Year is a biennial poll by BirdLife Australia and the Guardian Australia.

It’s a joyful celebration of Australia’s feathered wildlife, and a moment to inspire action for them on serious threats like habitat loss. On 17 October, after hundreds of thousands of votes are cast, one species out of the shortlisted 50 will be crowned the public’s top choice.

We might be biased, but this Pink Robin is ridiculously cute and matches our logo colours perfectly.

We're the first Australian bank with a conservation reserve – it’s one way we’re using the business of banking to help create a healthier planet.

Our conservation reserve is home to 251 native plant and 283 native animal species, including threatened and endangered species. Protecting nature and biodiversity is one of our key impact areas on behalf of our customers. Learn more about our nature and biodiversity strategy.

Together with Greening Australia, we completed a survey of the 2,117 hectare conservation reserve we care for, and here’s what we found.

In 2023 our survey results with partners showed the impact of our work restoring nature and biodiversity, and identified learnings for the future. Along with birds like the endangered South-eastern Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo, and threatened Diamond Firetail and Hooded Robin, other species were observed including the Painted Dragon, Fiery Jewel Butterfly, and the Western Pygmy Possum.
