Banking Code of Practice

Bank Australia is a member of the Australian Banking Association, which represents the Australian banking industry. As a member of the ABA, we subscribe to the Banking Code of Practice.

The ABA Code sets out a range of ethical and customer focused standards and behaviours that protect and serve individual and small businesses customers, and their guarantors as defined by the code. These are underpinned by four core principles:

  • Trust and confidence
  • Integrity
  • Service
  • Transparency and accountability

Further information about the Banking Code of Practice is available at the Australian Banking Association website.

The Banking Code Compliance Committee monitors compliance with the Banking Code of Practice.

Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice

Bank Australia is a member of the Customer Owned Banking Association (COBA).

Australia's customer owned banks, credit unions and mutual building societies provide banking and other financial services to 4.5 million Australians and are highly regulated, safe and secure financial institutions with total assets of more than $147 billion.

We support the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice, a set of ethical standards for customer owned banks, credit unions and mutual building societies which focus on customer benefits, community involvement, fairer fees and quality service.

The Code is a public expression of the level of support that subscribers will provide to its customers and the community, and the standards by which they be held accountable. It outlines clearly and transparently what a customer can expect when dealing with a Code subscriber.

Further information about the Customer Owed Banking Code of Practice is available at the Customer Owned Banking Association website.

The Customer Owned Banking Code Compliance Committee monitors compliance with the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice and promotes good industry practice; supporting customer owned banks to achieve service standards Australians can trust.
