AGM 2023: wrap-up and our customer grant showcase

Photo journal

Another year is in the books, with our 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Melbourne Museum last night. Our AGM is wonderful opportunity to reflect on all we’ve achieved together with our customers over the past year, and to look forward to the year ahead.

The highlight of the evening for many was the community customer grant showcase, where we put the spotlight on five remarkable organisations making a positive impact for people and the planet. Each year we provide grants from our impact fund of up to $20,000 each for organisations creating change in key impact areas.

2023 grant recipients WELA (Women’s Environmental Leadership Australia), ReThink recycling, Woor-Dungin Inc, Cirque du Soil, Mzuri Dance ArtisTree Fund attended our AGM and provided great insights into their work. From local initiatives to broader community projects, each organisation left a mark on our customers and staff who attended, showcasing the diverse ways the Bank Australia community is contributing to the greater good.

As a customer-owned bank it gives us great pleasure to see the number of customers who take part in our AGM process each year. Whether through voting, asking questions through our online platform or attending on the night – it’s important each of our customers play a role in the direction of our bank.

There were three items up for customer voting this year:

  • Changes to our board and re-election of Steve Ferguson as an independent non-executive director.
  • Non-executive directors’ remuneration increase
  • Changes to our Constitution to enable B Corp recertification

Each of these resolutions passed with support of our customers: catch up on all of the results from the evening.

Not sure what these changes mean? You can read a recent blog about our 2023 AGM agenda.

This year’s AGM was Judith Downes’ last as Bank Australia’s Board Chair. Judith has been instrumental in growing Bank Australia and it was fitting to thank her for 11 years of commitment, care and leadership.

Finally, a big thank you to everyone who is part of the Bank Australia community and we look forward to another successful year on behalf of our customers.
