We are facing a climate crisis, and while many Australians are concerned about climate issues, and can feel isolated in their efforts to make a difference. Climate for Change, a volunteer-powered not-for-profit and long-time Bank Australia customer, is helping to change that.
Clara, a staff member at Bank Australia and board member at Climate for Change since 2024 explains:
"Our goal is to help Australians talk about climate change and take action. Real change happens when we have conversations with people we know and trust. By connecting, sharing ideas and using practical tools, we help people feel confident taking action and create momentum for meaningful climate action."
Climate Conversations: Celebrating 10 years
At the heart of Climate for Change’s work are Climate Conversations. These guided conversations help people understand climate change and give them the confidence to take action in their communities.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Climate Conversations, a decade of empowering Australians to discuss climate change in safe, supportive spaces. One host, Rachel Davis, shared the impact of a conversation in Glen Iris:
"It was such a great night and really inspired us to start acting collectively. For some, it was their first time talking about climate change, and it made them feel more hopeful and motivated."
Climate Conversations are run across the country, often at people’s houses or through partnership with local councils and community groups. Volunteers play an important role, co-facilitating discussions and helping participants take the next steps in climate action.

MP Engagement Groups
Another key program of Climate for Change is their Member of Parliament (MP) Engagement Groups. These groups help everyday Australians learn how to contact their MPs, give them the tools they need, and build the confidence to speak up about climate issues.
Over the past year, Climate for Change has run national online events with guest speakers from groups like Footy for Climate, Beyond Gas Network and Parents for Climate. Participants also get handy resources like issue briefings, newsletters, and step-by-step guides for contacting their MPs.
Thanks to these efforts, the community not only reached but exceeded its goal, sending over 500 personal messages to MPs within the first 100 days of the new government. In total, they demonstrated 553 times that everyday Australians want strong, science-backed climate policies.
