Is there anything I can do to improve my credit rating?

You sure can – here are some actions you can take to help improve your credit score:

- pay loans, credit cards and bills on time or set up direct debits

- redirect bills when you move

- close accounts you don’t need

- don’t apply for multiple loans or credit cards in a short period of time

The credit reporting bodies Bank Australia works with also have tips on how to improve your credit score: please visit Equifax (formerly known as Veda) and Experian advice. Credit smart also offers some great advice.

It’s also a good idea to check your credit report regularly, to make sure there aren’t any mistakes that could be affecting your credit score. And, if you do find a mistake, make sure you ask Bank Australia or the relevant credit reporting body about it.
