How to electrify your home with free expert support

Photo journal

Thinking about switching your home from gas to electric?

From the potential to reduce emissions to lower energy bills, there are plenty of reasons to make the switch.

But every home is different and knowing where to start can feel overwhelming.

That's why eligible Bank Australia customers can now access a free 15-minute video consultation with a BOOM! Power Energy Concierge.

BOOM! Power will provide you with personalised advice tailored to your home from a qualified energy expert who can also coordinate appropriately licensed and insured  installers to deliver comparable quotes.

There's no obligation to go ahead with any recommendations, and no pressure to make a decision on the spot.

“We know Bank Australia customers care about climate action, and we’re committed to helping our customers get off gas at home.

"We also know the process can be overwhelming and confusing.

"That’s where personal advice from a qualified expert, not a salesperson, can be a big help,” said Georgia Windrum, Manager Climate Action Strategy.

How can an Energy Concierge help?

A BOOM! Power Energy Concierge can help you understand your options without having to chase multiple installers for quotes.

You can chat through what matters most to you and your household, whether that’s potentially lowering bills, using less gas or making your home more comfortable.

Your Energy Concierge can assist you throughout the electrification process, from understanding your home and priorities to sourcing comparable quotes, providing information about available rebates and supporting you during the installation process.

If you’d like to explore an upgrade, your Concierge can assist with obtaining quotes from appropriately licensed and insured installers, and talk you through comparing them, including what is and isn’t included.

This can save you from contacting multiple installers or managing repeated sales calls yourself.

They’re there to offer practical guidance, not sell you a particular product.

How does the free video consultation work?

During the 15-minute video call, discuss with the Concierge what you’d like to change.

You use your phone camera to show safe and easy-to-reach parts of your home, such as:

  • Your switchboard or power box
  • Your hot-water system
  • Heating and cooling equipment
  • Your cooktop
  • Existing solar or battery equipment
  • Appliance labels, model numbers or accessible installation areas

You can explain what’s working, what isn’t and what you might need down the track. The Concierge can then help you work out what to potentially focus on first.

If more information is needed before an upgrade can occur, your Concierge will talk you through the next steps.

Appointments are available Monday to Saturday, including after work hours.

What if you already have an installer’s quote?

You can still book an Energy Concierge consultation.

A Concierge can help you understand the quote and, if you choose, they can get comparison quotes and help you compare them.

What home electrification upgrades can you discuss?

You can tackle one upgrade at a time or create a tailored plan for upgrading a number of appliances.

Common options include:

Will the Energy Concierge give advice without any sales pressure?

Yes. You can start with practical guidance, take your time and decide what suits you.

If you request a quote, your Concierge can also help you review:

  • The recommended product
  • Essential and optional work requirements
  • What’s included or excluded
  • Rebates and warranties

What happens if you’d like to proceed with Energy Concierge?

  1. Choose how to start: Book a video consultation with an Energy Concierge.
  2. Talk through your home: Share your priorities and show the Concierge visible appliances or equipment.
  3. Review your options: Consider possible upgrades, installation needs, timing and quotes.
  4. Decide what suits you: You are not obliged to make a purchase after the consultation.
  5. Need help funding your upgrades? Depending on the work you're planning, you may be eligible for a Bank Australia [Clean Energy Personal Loan].
  6. Confirm the work: If you proceed, BOOM! Power can introduce your chosen installer.

Can electrifying your home reduce running costs?

The Australian Government says an average household may save hundreds to thousands of dollars a year by going all-electric, depending on its energy use.

Going all-electric may also lower your household’s carbon footprint.

How much you save will depend on your home, energy use, appliances, installation costs, electricity rates, solar and any rebates you can access.

Do you need to electrify everything at once?

No. You can make a plan and tackle the upgrades in stages.

An ageing appliance, a renovation or uncomfortable rooms can be a good place to begin.

If two options offer similar value, you might choose the one that also cuts gas use or makes better use of your solar.

Energy Consumers Australia’s all-electric home guide recommends making a plan rather than replacing everything at once, or waiting until an appliance breaks down.
