Imagine spending a Saturday afternoon wandering through someone’s home while they walk you through what they changed, what it cost, and what they’d do differently.
No sales pitch. No showroom gloss.
Just a real person and a real home, with all the practical detail you want.
That’s Sustainable House Day.
“On Sustainable House Day, real people open real homes across Australia. Step inside architect-designed sustainable builds, clever retrofits, all-electric upgrades, efficient apartments and climate-resilient rebuilds.”
— Kate Walsh (TBC), Renew
According to Renew, 70% of past attendees report planning to make changes to their own home within six months of attending an open home.
About Sustainable House Day
Sustainable House Day is coordinated by Renew, a membership nonprofit that has been working to help Australians improve their homes for climate and energy resilience since 1980.
Renew also publishes Renew and Sanctuary magazines, two of the most useful resources for anyone thinking about sustainable living or building.
This year, Bank Australia is proud to be principal partner of Sustainable House Day.
The open homes on 17 May are just the start.

What’s in it for customers
If you’re already a Bank Australia customer, you have free access to the Electrify Your Home tool through the Bank Australia app.
It helps you understand which changes to your home would make the biggest difference to your energy use and running costs, at a pace that suits you.
If you’re not yet a customer, you can open a transaction account today, or our Clean Energy Home Loan is designed for people buying or building energy-efficient electric homes.
It’s one of the ways we put our lending to work in support of the homes Australia needs more of.
