Why choose the Basic Access Account?

Our Basic Access Account is a transaction account for eligible customers to receive their government benefit payment into and access free banking transactions at over 10,000 Bank Australia and major bank ATMs, every EFTPOS outlet, and at our branches. With VISA debit you have worldwide access to your savings, and 24/7 fraud monitoring.

Other account features are:

  • no account keeping fees
  • no minimum deposit amounts
  • the ability to set up and cancel direct debits
  • no overdrawn fees
  • Visa card access
  • telephone and internet banking
  • smartphone apps
  • card control features that allow you to mange the way you transact, temporarily lock your card and create custom notifications to monitor your card activity
  • free monthly eStatements for internet banking and credit card customers, and quarterly paper statements for everyone else.
  • Round UP - A way to boost your savings or pay off your credit card. Any eligible purchase you make using your Visa debit card is rounded up to the nearest dollar with the extra amount credited to your nominated Savings, Mortgage Offset or eligible Credit Card.

The fine print

Available to customers who have a current Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card. Government benefits must be credited to this account. 

Customers who hold a Health Care Card and do not receive Government benefits, must credit their low income earnings into this account.

Upon expiry of an eligible card customers must provide updated card details. If updated details are not provided within two months of card expiration the account will be converted to an Everyday Access account. Applicable fees and charges will apply. Cards may be presented in person or a copy sent via secure email or traditional mail.

The Basic Access Account will have an interest rate of 0% and does not allow certain transactions, such as cheque books or [email protected] transactions.
